The reading of Lynn Schooler's book " The Blue Bear" gave me the idea to present you this guide who met the japonese photographer, Michio Hoschino ( I speak about him in my topic : animal photographers) .

They were looking for the rare bear : the glacier bear or blue bear.

To do that, I was inspired by Lynn Schooler's book and also by two articles, one from Susan Haynes from Coastal Living and the other one which was published on the HarperCollins website.

His book " The Blue Bear" unveils his passion for place.
His meeting with the wellknown japonese photographer Michio Hoshino, then his death in 1996, was crucial for the writing of his book.

"His interest in the blue bear began as a desire to help his friend, who was a professional wildlife photographer.

After years of searching and failing to find one, it became something of an obsession, probably because neither Lynn nor Michio, were the sort of people to ever give up once they decided to do something, but also because the act of seeking something so perpetually elusive began to take on something of a mystical or spiritual connotation. You can see above, the only one picture taken by Lynn from the Blue Bear.
As he says in his book, it is precious because it's the one of a blue bear, that he tracked down during ten years but it also represents ten tears of friendness with Michio.
Michio was killed by a grizzli bear in 1996 in Russia.
There was a certain dark, poetic irony in someone so attuned to and in love with the natural world meeting his end in conflict with a member of a species he had done a great deal to preserve. And it's also the reason why Lynn Schooler began a writer.
