Marck Coreth : his ice bear project : Art in service of the environment

Mark Coreth.jpg

I thank Mark to give me the opportunity to write this article.

Mark Coreth, project founder, is internationally known as a master sculptor of animals in motion. He has always drawn his inspiration from direct encounters with life in the wild, a passion that has taken him from the mountains of Ladakh, to Rajasthan, the African plains, the Falklands and now the Arctic.

He was born in London in 1958 and was immediatly dispatched to the family farm in the kenyan highlands. This childhood fostered Mark's early and continuing passion for wildlife.

The Ice Bear Project is a not-for-profit arts organisation. The inspiration behind it, has come from Mark . He witnessed the effects of climate change when he first travelled to Baffin Island during November 2007. Mark knew that few will ever experience the Arctic, but realised that he could bring the Arctic to everyone in the form of an Ice Bear sculptural event.

The Ice Bear Prhttp://youtu.be/mHTZvz-6IK8oject is non-political. they simply believe that great art alone can speak for itself and has a significant role to play in connecting us all to the natural world.

Here are the different stages of the construction of the bear which will be exhibit in London for Christmas in Trafalgar square.
